Halloween project

It was a new experience for me to organise something in school. My friends and I decided to make a  small 'suchi bar' for the Halloween disco. It was very difficult to cooperate with everyone and organize such a big event, because we were not really sure about the circumstances that we were going to have. We had to give up the plan of suchi bar and change it to sandwiches and Korean food cafe. I came to realize that I lacked the skill of planning and organizing. But I developed this skill over time and the event went very successful. I was very glad that I challenged something very new, and managed to develop my skills. The profit we gained when to the charity which also made this event very successful and useful.

Gym 2

In order to make some imrovements, I constantly increases the amount of excercises that I do. Theses days, I start my training with walking for 40 minuets on the walking machine. I wanted to challenge something new, and my trainer recomnded to work on my back and arms. Thus I added cable tower and lat pull-down on my list. I was familiar with the second machine, but the first traning machine was completely new to me. It took me a while to get used to it, but now, I can use it without the tranner's support.

International Day

It was a great experience to be responsible for supervising year 9 students. I have never done such a thing, and I was very glad to see the students participating very actively. I had a chance to participate in some activities, especially Asian games which were familiar to me. It was an excellent day and I was glad I managed to do my duty very well.

I've started going to the gym! :D

Since I got a feedback about my CAS from the teachers, now I'm aware that I have a serious problem with activities. I am very bad at putting pressure on myself and I still have an issue with time management. Thus I decided to go to the gym. I started going there since the beginning of the summer holiday. As the new term started and I'm aware of my timetable, I made a plan for my activity. I go the gym twice a week, and I gradually increase the amount of exercises that I must do. For example, when I only begun training, I could work only for an hour. I usually start with walking on a walking machine. In July, I could walk only for 15 minuets. Now I usually walk for 30 minuets on slopes.
It is very encouraging to see that my ability and skill of training is improving. And I like that I sometimes communicate with people who also train there. They give me very useful advices. I am very happy that I finally do productive activities.

Helping At Church

During the summer holiday, I did not have much opportunity to help at the church since I was not in Moscow. Unfortunately, I managed to go there only twice.
The school has started and now I have quite enough of time to spend on CAS. Thus I decided to go there as often as possible. I usually go there every Saturday to help with cleaning up. Last week, I was invited by people there to help them with setting up for a very important religious event. Sadly, I was not allowed to take any pictures inside the church. I helped there for about 2 hours. I was asked to throw away all flowers, wash vases and finally clean icons as usual. It was very interesting to get involved in such event, because, although I don't believe in God, listening to people who have totally different opinions made me open-minded. I enjoyed talking about the religion with them in Russian, and I even learnt some new words. Interacting with people who are from various backgrounds is an important experience, which also makes me a good communicator.

The New Art Project - no title

Since I've done my Maiko Project, I decided to start new one. It took me awhile to come up with a proper idea. I always liked drawing beautiful clothes and people. Since I drew Japanese clothes for my last project, I want to challenge something new. Thus, I decided to draw different dresses. I used to like drawing dancers, different dresses, a princess, ball gowns and other girlish things, so I thought it would be good if a theme of the new project is something related to them. Therefore, my new project will be called 'a ball project'. Hopefully, I will come up with a better title for it.

So here are some rough drawings that I drew for practice. It took me only 30 minuets to draw them. However, I did not draw the whole bodies and dresses. To be honest, I drew them just for fun and entertainment. Next time, I will try to actually draw a ball gown by water colours.

The Maiko Project - the final work

I am very disappointed at myself that it took me so long to finish this work and actually upload it.  Although I was busy with exams and other important things, I have to admit that I could be much better at organizing time if I tried harder. Therefore, I can't say that I'm satisfied with my first project.
And I am not happy with the quality of my final drawing. I rushed a bit and I did not draw carefully. I missed some details of the back ground and Kimono. I hoped that I might be able to express the beauty and complexity of Kimono and the make-up of Maiko San by using pencils...but I clearly failed it.
Therefore I would give only 5 out of 10 for my project and the work itself.

Helping in church

Tuesday was 'день упокоенных', therefore I had to go to church. And I thought it could be a great chance for me to do my CAS service. As usual, I cleaned up the candelabrums and icons. Since I got used to this task, I could to work efficiently in short time. Next time, I want to do something new and hard, so I can be more active and helpful. I am planning to come to church again before my exam study will start. However, these days, I am very busy with doing my IAs and other homework, so I have to wait until I'll get enough time. And that would probably happen after two weeks from now.

Art project - the final work...

The final work of my art project seems to take much longer to draw than I was expecting. This time I tried to complete drawing Kimono and the Kasa (an umbrella). However, after an hour of hard working, I realized that there was no progress made at all. So I decided to complete rough drawing of the Maiko San, so I can put more details next time. My over all aim is to finish this task until the end of this term, and start a new project as soon as possible. Next time, I will be focusing on details, such as shades of Kimono and the Kasa, and the background.

The Final Work- Maiko Project ...first draft

Although I already started drawing my final work, I decided to start it again. I couldn't enjoy drawing the previous one, and since I have to put so much effort and time on the final work, I want to do something that I can be interested in. Therefore I started drawing comletely different work.

This is just a raugh sketch, so I can have a general consept of the work. (1 min)

A draft

I always prefere to star with a face.

Next time, I will draw the Kimono.
Sorry for the bad quality of the images. I will upload better photos as soon as I will get my camera back from my brother.

Activity

I did not record anything for my activities, though I continue doing the exercises. This is only because of my bad organization skill and I have to improve on it. As I continued this activity for 2 months, I realized that doing them every day, as I initially planned, is just impossible. So I decided to do them three times a week. However, I increased the amount of excises. For example, I doubled the amount of push-up and sit-up and back extension.
I am very glad that I improved my skill and now, I can manage to do even more amount of exercises. And I lost 3kg in 2 month. However as you can see, I missed 4 days in total in March. I am aware of my energy and I know that sometimes, I am too tired to any physical work after school. But 4 days seem to be too often for me. So next month, I hope that I will be able to force myself and make these exercises part of my daily routine.

Helping in church

04/04
My mother is a very religious person.  And since I’m going to Japan on Friday, she said that I must go to the church and pray for a safe flight. And I thought that I can take this opportunity and do a little help there. As always, I cleaned up the candelabrums and icons. Since I got used to this task, I could to work efficiently in short time. I had 30 minutes left, because I managed to finish the task quickly. So I decided to swab the floor. I was glad that I didn’t wait for other people to tell me what to do, but I found the job to do by myself and did not waste the time. I think I organized my time very well.
When I was about to leave the church, my mother said that the church is going to participate in a bazaar for charity in next month, so I can come and help there. I think that would be a very good opportunity for me to try something new. If I will success to organize my schedule really carefully, I will defiantly go there and help as much as possible.

The Final Work- Maiko Project ...first draft

Helping in the church 3

2nd of February
This time, I invited my friend to join my service in the church. I did the same task-cleaning up the candelabrums and icons- like last time. Since we did together and I got used to this task, we could work efficiently in really short time. It took only an hour and half to finish cleaning up.
I was very glad that I could share this culture and chance with my friend and I hope we can help there again soon.
Learning outcomes;
- Worked collaboratively with others
-Undertake new challenges - Developed new skills
 - Increase awareness of my strengths and areas for growth

2013 CAS Plan

 Creativity

I am going to draw my final work for 'Maiko San' which would be
an assembly of my all ideas and techniques that have been developed during the whole project.
As soon as I'll finish the project, I wa
nt move on to new one. I have not come up with ideas, but I hope it would be something related to Russia and its culture.

 Activity

As I spend most of my free time available for CAS on service and creativity, I will just continue the everyday exercises for activity. I've been gradually increasing the amount of exercises I do which shows my strength being improved over time. I want to challenge some new exercises and rearrange the details of the whole exercises.

 Service
Since my mother offered to me to help in the church, I would like to work there as often as possible. Unfortunately, I don’t have really much time available. So my target would be to help there at least twice a month. I also hope to improve my Russian
skill and learn Russian culture through the service.

Helping in the church 2 - Christmas Service.

(06.12.12)

Today I helped in the church to prepare for the Christmas Service which is going to be held in the midnight. I cleaned up the candelabrums and icons. I also swabbed the floor and helped to cook for the Christmas dinner. It took about 3 hours to finish all these tasks.
I am not sure about when I'll be able to help there again since the school will start soon, but I hope it'll be within 2 weeks :)

Learning outcomes;
- Worked collaboratively with others
-Undertake new challenges - Developed new skills
 - Increase awareness of my strengths and areas for growth
- shown perseverance and commitment in activities
- Considered the ethical implications of actions

Art Project- Watercolors

This was my final practicing of drawing Maiko San. I could not decide whether to use water colours or pencils. Although I am quite satisfied with this work, it took too much time for me to draw. As you can see the kimono lacks of details and the Maiko’s skin does not really look good. In my opinion, the advantage of using water colors is that the drawing s can look real. However, my woks do not have this kind of advantage, and there is no point for me to use water colors. I always preferred to use pencils and I like the atmosphere that white-and-black drawings create. I’m also interested in my ability to show the gorgeousness by using simple pencils.
Therefore I decided to use pencils. But if the work does not take too much time, I may draw another one by water-colors just to entertain myself.
Learning outcomes are;
-Increase awareness of my strengths and areas for growth
 -Undertake new challenges
 -Planned and initiative ativities
 -Developed new skills

Helping in the church - The new year service

(30.12.12) My mother helps in the church called 'храм воздвижения креста господня на чистом вражке' as a member of the volunteer group. And she's invited me to help there for the New Year service. I also go to this church and so I already knew the clergymen and other people who work there. Today I cleaned up the candelabrums and the icons. I was very glad that I did not miss this opportunity. Today, I could not only do my CAS but I could also practice my Russian and actually communicate with Russian people (which I used to hate because of my bad russian), and learn Russian culture. I myself am Russian-Christian, but I'd never been interested iRussian Orthodox Church. Through this CAS, I understood that I should go to church more often, and try to have contact with Russian culture.  Next time I am going to help for Christmas service (6th and 7th).

Learning outcomes;
- Worked collaboratively with others
-Undertake new challenges - Developed new skills
 - Increase awareness of my strengths and areas for growth

Art Project - pencils

yukata is a Japanese garment, a casual summer kimono usually made of cotton or synthetic fabric, and unlined. Today I wanted to practice drawing a person full length. Yukata is much easier to draw compare to Kimono. I drew without a model which was quiet difficult for me as I prefer reproducing or using a model photo. It took 2 minutes to make a sketch, and 20 minutes for drawing. I understood that I can produce a better work with details in much shorter time then when I use water-colors. So I might use a pencil for my final work which I am going to do within a month. I’ve already started to make some ideas for the final piece, and I’ve made some sketches.
